The interior’s by far the best of any Mazda to date, new SKYACTIV engines deliver strong performance with low emissions, and the diesel is exceptional. Its victory in one of the most significant categories in the SCOTY awards reinforces just how compelling a proposition the all-new Mazda3 makes for both private buyers and company car drivers in Scotland. With a 36-strong model range priced from 16,995 to 23,745 on-the-road (OTR), the new Mazda Hatchback/Fastback combines striking, KODO design with highly-advanced SKYACTIV engineering. The premium quality, ergonomically-superb interior sets new standards for mobile connectivity with the debut of Mazda’s MZD Connect system, which works with compatible smartphones to seamlessly integrate online social media and internet radio using Aha; a cloud-based app with a wide range of free, web-based, infotainment content*. A choice of 1.5-litre 100ps petrol engine or 2.0-litre with either 120ps or 165ps power output, and a 2.2-litre 150ps turbodiesel provides an ideal blend of power and frugality. The powertrains’ advanced and lightweight SKYACTIV technologies deliver up to 72.4mpg in the combined cycle, whilst generating emissions as low as just 104g/km**.

Now I drive cars and write about them, with a sore neck from hunching over a computer. I have been covering the automotive industry for more than a decade and have an encyclopedic knowledge of cars. I was the editor of ForbesAutos.com and helped conceive and launch the site, which has since become part of Forbes.com. I test dozens of new vehicles every year–on the road, on racetracks and off-road–and have become an expert traveler in the process.

The savings in your dry cleaning bill alone will make it worth ticking that option box. Audi flagship sedan Rumors about a new Audi flagship sedan, tentatively dubbed the A9, have been circulating for a while; and the company chose to fan the flames at the LA Auto Show with a striking concept car called the Prologue. Audis Head of Design Marc Lichte called it a foretaste of the future of Audi. Ostensibly, its a showcase for the companys future design language, but it also happens to be a runner (drivable prototype); and it features all of the high-tech and performance hardware needed to step up and play in the majors, including an instrument panel that is all one large touch display, and a 605-horsepower turbocharged engine under the hood. Theres also a system Audi calls the butler that identifies driver and passengers based on their smartphones and adjusts the seats and climate-control system according to their preferences. The system also networks the smartphones of passengers to the vehicle infotainment system and automatically re-charges them.
